stamps

mini up date.. picked up my forever stamps since the price goes up again soon. I think May 11th, so get your stamps before the price goes up. Planning I writing miss Erica a lot so wanted to pick up those stamps. I got them at Costco. Think Costco was 100 stamps for $42 something. Talk to you all soon.

cruise night

Went to L E cruise night. Saw some awesome autos, but as you can tell our fave is the Mustang. Miss Erica heads back down to LA at 3 am Friday morning for her drug test and weigh in again, for her possible send off on Monday May 11th. Keep your fingers crossed, at least time she wont be going alone another guy from her recruiter depot will be going with her.

The big day..or so we thought

Yes we thought it was the big day April 27th..

2 am got up and ready to go

1. clothes we don't care about because most likely you wont get them back

2. 20 bucks in pocket because thats the max allowed

we were told to be at the recruiter center by 3 am

We were there at 2:45 am, no recruiter finally at 3:45 am,

second in command sgt. came.

He told me to follow because he had to get back to Corona,

couldn't take the fast track(car pool lane),

so did almost 80 the whole way trying to keep up.

They told me Erica had to be there at 5 am and that I couldn't go in until 7 am.

We barely made it there by 5 am, and I waited in the truck till 7 am.

In the mean time Erica had to get weighed, drug tested, and pregnancy test.

Erica met four awesome girls, they really bonded, finally at 7 am I went in and

I was really happy she met great girls that she would be shipping out with,

got their names and all.

After a few hours the Marine in charge, called Erica in the office and

asked her didn't your recruiter tell you that you are on stand by, she said, NO..

so she called her recruiter, he said he would make some calls,

Anyway after lunch seven hours later, they called her back in and told her that the spot was filled and that her next stand by date is May 11th, needless to say,

she was very upset mainly because of the friends she made,

and that they would be going on without her.

I tried to think about what could I do to bring a little happiness back in,

so I took her to the LA Natural History Museum, we had a great time and it was awesome..

had never been there before, but we had a great day. I told her everything happens for a reason. So on May 8th Erica has to go back down to LA to get weighed and

drug tested again, then back to LA again on the 11th and she will be on standby again..

we will see what the outcome will be.

good luck party-4-15-09

Had an awesome get together for miss Erica's send off to south carolina for Marine boot camp
and for Bryce's send off to Afghanistan. Lots of friends and family came it was a wonderful time.
Miss Erica was excited and sad to see everyone, knowing most of her friends she won't see for a long time.
A little emotional for me, my mom already cried just getting her a 'we'll miss you' balloon.
Erica has talked about going for a while but even having to take the asvab 3 times, she just kept trying to raise her score.
I was thinking it really wouldn't happen. Now its only 12 days away.
I know 3 months really is not that long she spent more time at my grandparents home.
But as a parent you still worry. Erica had a great time seeing everyone and lots of photos, I have posted some... enjoy

Parris Island South Carolina

Hello all,
I have had a few people ask me about Parris Island, that is were Miss Erica will be sent for boot camp.
I have had friends tell me about what they know, even my aunt (my dad's sister) told me they lived there
when her husband was in the service. She said she loved it that it was very beautiful.
If you can stand the humidity.
I have been researching a little and I think that wikipidia was a good insight on the place

Wish she could be in San Diego but they only train women in South Carolina, but that doesn't mean she wont be back here or even 29 Palms base for schooling at lot depends on the job she gets, which we should find out today. She says she will try to get RA Recruiters Assistance after boot camp if she can instead of 10 days home she could have 21 or more, so keep your fingers crossed, and Miss Erica in your prayers.

7 am April 13 2009

7 am on Monday I took the day off to spend with Erica as there wont be much time left.
The phone rang .. it was her recruiter Staff Sergeant Fernandaz, he informed her that her new ship date is
April 28th 2009. So now she has a few butterflies. We ran into her great grandpas pastor who told her butterflies are a good thing, that it means that she is taking this seriously. Her recruiter also told her the date could even be bumped up sooner.
Wednesday the 15th we are having a get together for everyone to tell her good luck as she will be sent to Parris Island in South Carolina for boot camp and also for every to say good luck and be safe to my best friends son Bryce who is being deployed to Afghanistan on Friday april 18th 2009.

Swearing into the DEP program

Talk about work. Miss Erica has worked very hard to get where she is. She has been exercising every day, and going to weight watchers. She lost 27 lbs with weight watchers, we had no idea that the Marine Corp had a weight limit at first, when we found out she busted it to get where she needed to be.

Then the day before her swear in her recruiter measured her height and told her she had to lose three pounds in one day.. and she did just that, running in a sauna suit and sitting in a sauna suit in the sauna for hours, no food - little water, I don't know how she did but she did. It was unbelievable!

Then on the day of her swear in her recruiter took her down to Los Angeles CA at 3 am, I told them I wanted to be there, so one of the recruiters came back and picked me up at 8 am.. they told me it would happen around 9 am... well after sitting around about 5 hours she was sworn into the United States Marine Corps on April 2nd 2009.

It was funning waiting so long people kept talking to me, saying aren't you so proud of your daughter and how do you feel about it, I wondered 'how do they know I have a daughter here with these hundreds of kids', then finally an Army recruiter said well everyone here knows about your daughter because she's the only female going into the Marines for the last three days and the only kid with a parent here. well needless to say I was proud. When I went into the ceremony room she was embarrassed that I was taking photos, until a bunch of guys in her group said, that so cool your mom is here, wish my parent cared.. on and on they went so I knew she felt much better about it. It was an awesome day.. the next day she started making phone calls to tell her family her decision and plans. They told her that her ship out date in now May 26th 2009.
